Julie retired as assistant director at Des Moines Public Schools' Central Campus following 35 years of service as an administrator and teacher. At Central Campus she was responsible for administering 35 advanced-level career and technical programs and assisting in the remodel design of a 1914 building into a state-of-the-art school. She now serves as a supervisor of student teachers for Iowa State University and Grandview University. She remains involved with educational issues at the local and state levels through service on a variety of committees, as well as by presenting to legislative committees. While at Iowa State, Julie was involved with many activities in the College of Home Economics. She continued her involvement with the college throughout her years as an educator, chairing committees, serving on selection committees, creating and planning annual professional development for Iowa FCS teachers on the ISU campus, and most recently serving as chair of the Dean’s Advisory Committee. During her time on the ISUAA Board of Directors, Julie has served as Vice Chair of Records, chair of the Membership and Engagement Committee, chair of the Strategic Planning Task Force, and member of the Awards Review and Selection and Alumni Center Oversight Committees. She is an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, confirmation, Bible school, serving as chair of the governance board, interim preschool director, and other church committees. Julie and her husband, Scott ('79 phys ed, MS '84) enjoy time with their two sons (also ISU grads) and their families, including grandchildren Catherine and Finn.
