Kate is the senior vice president for university services at Iowa State University. Her specific responsibilities include business services, facilities planning and management, public safety, purchasing, environmental health and safety departments, University Museums, Reiman Gardens, WOI radio group, and the Iowa State Center. Kate holds a bachelor's degree in general engineering (1982) from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., as well as two master’s degrees – in systems management (1984) from University of Southern California, Los Angeles; and in construction management (1991) from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Kate currently serves on the board of directors of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill. She was formerly the chief of civil engineers and commander of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Washington D.C., from 2012-2015. She has also served as commander at NAVFAC Pacific and force civil engineer for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and in various other assignments throughout the United States and in Naples, Italy, and Yokosuka, Japan.
As a member of the ISUAA Board of Directors, Kate has served as Risk Management Liaison and as a member of both the Finance Committee and the Alumni Center Utilization and Expansion Task Force.
