Duane is the retired chief operating officer of LandoLakes, Inc. In this capacity he was responsible for all plant operations, marketing, and sales in the United States, Taiwan, and Poland.

His family is the majority owner and he serves as chairman of the board of Paradise Developers, a 150 acre development project in southern Costa Rica. He is also president of D. Halverson & Associates, an advisory company with CEO clients from Ohio to Oregon. Duane has farm and cattle operations in both Iowa and North Dakota.

While at Iowa State he was named to the Omicron Delta Epsilon honorary fraternity for outstanding students in advanced economic studies. Duane has stayed connected to Iowa State through his involvement in the Ag Business Club. He has received the Outstanding Agribusiness Leader of the Year award and the Floyd Andre Award for his contribution to Iowa agriculture. The United States Senate has recognized Duane for his contribution to American agriculture.
