Lora is a passionate supporter of Iowa State University and its veterinary medicine programs. She and Russ became friends and enthusiasts of Iowa State through the Companion Animal Fund and the Wildlife Care Clinic. During Campaign Iowa State: With Pride and Purpose, they have made generous commitments, financial and otherwise, to support veterinary students and programs, including the expansion of the Russell G. and Lora L. Talbot Scholars in Veterinary Medicine Program. Lora is an ISU Foundation governor and a member of both the national campaign committee and veterinary medicine collegiate committee for Campaign Iowa State. She also serves on the Women and Philanthropy Committee. Lora and Russ are members of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Veterinary Medicine. They are members of the Order of the Knoll William M. Beardshear Society, and the Campanile Society. Lora serves on the board of directors of the Belmond Community Hospital Foundation. She and Russ received the Belmond, Iowa, Outstanding Community Service Award for their extensive volunteer work and community support. Lora is a graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she received a BA degree in elementary education. During her professional career, she was an executive officer with the Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System. She retired in 2004 with more than 30 years of service.
