Tahira is a professor of personal finance and consumer economics at Iowa State. Since 1976 she has taught and conducted research in family financial management, consumer credit, gambling, and consumer bankruptcy. She is internationally known for her research in consumer bankruptcy, consumer credit, social and psychological aspects of investing and borrowing behavior of middle- and high-income Americans, gambling and consumer credit, and borrowing behavior of college students. She has published approximately 100 articles and book chapters. She is founder of ISU’s Financial Counseling Clinic. She is a recipient of the University of Missouri-Columbia Alumni Award, ISU Regents’ Faculty Excellence Award, Alumni Faculty Citation, and Wilton Park International Achievement Award, and is a fellow of the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education. She has served on the U.S. President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy. She is currently chairing the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) Financial Literacy Advisory Committee. Tahira is ISU President Gregory Geoffroy’s designee to the ISUAA Board of Directors. She has served on the following committees: Risk Management Task Force (chair), the Board appointee to the DAC Committee, and Selection of Future Board Members Task Force.
