Chris, an ISU senior majoring in mechanical engineering, is the Student Alumni Association's at-large representative to the Young Alumni Council. A member of nine honor societies who maintains a 3.99 GPA in mechanical engineering, Chris has served as co-director of Dance Marathon, vice president of the ISU Government of the Student Body, vice president of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, president of Freshmen Council, seminar leader for the Freshmen Honors Program, and as a member of both the ISU Foundation Student Committee and the President's Leadership Class at Iowa State. He is currently employed as an intern at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power plant. Last summer he interned in Washington, D.C., where he published a policy paper entitled "Climate Change Technology Transfer: Opportunities in the Developing World." He has traveled China, Brazil, and Australia to do conservation and renewable energy studies and visited New Orleans to assist with Hurricane Katrina relief. Chris completed an honors project in 2007 in which he created and taught an educational program focused on stimulating interest in science and engineering among middle and high school students, and he has volunteered with Youth & Shelter Services' GRIP mentor program. A National Merit Scholar, the Jefferson, Iowa, native was named a 2008 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and a 2005-2006 Arthur R. Priest Scholar by the Phi Delta Theta Educational Foundation. Chris was also a finalist for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship in 2006.
