Garrett is a lifelong supporter of Iowa State University and Cyclone athletics who has been a member of the ISU Alumni Association and Cyclone Club since becoming an official ISU alumnus in 2003, when he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in community and regional planning. Today he lives in Ankeny with his wife and daughter and is employed in Ames by the Iowa Department of Transportation as a statewide planning coordinator. As an ISU student, Garrett was involved with the Community and Regional Planning Club, the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association, the ISU Boxing Club, and the ISU Paintball Club.
