Trent is chief operating officer of Bedell North Fork, LLC, a winery and vineyard management company based on Long Island, N.Y. Since he joined the company in 2002, Trent's innovation has contributed to Bedell being named to Wine Business Monthly's annual list of the world's "Top 10 Hottest Brands." Trent is active on the boards of directors of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation and MKF Research, the world's leading wine and grape industry think tank. A South Dakota native, Trent was a scholar of Phi Beta Kappa, Rotary, and Udall, as well as a finalist for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, while earning his bachelor's degree in global science policy and bioethics at Iowa State in 1998. Since graduating from ISU, he has worked at the National Institutes of Health, the Council for Agricultural Science & Technology, and the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy. In 1999 he earned a master's diploma in biodiversity & taxonomy of plants at the University of Edinburgh, where he co-authored a chapter in the book Conservation Medicine. In 2002, he completed an M.S. in agricultural economics at Cornell University, receiving "Outstanding Thesis" designation for his economic analysis of the marketing of New York wines.
