Rodney Ganey has been in the business of helping providers improve the delivery of health care for more than 25 years. Ganey is a co-founder of Press Ganey Associates, a firm that utilizes customer satisfaction measurement tools to help health care organizations evaluate and improve health care and gives a voice to some 8 million patients a year through their survey responses. These cover every aspect of health care, including assisted living, ambulatory surgery, outpatient services, and hospice.
Building on this initial strength, Press Ganey has expanded its scope to include care settings beyond the inpatient and added the evaluation of experiences by stakeholders other than patients, such as physicians and hospital staff.
Ganey founded Press Ganey Associates in 1985 with fellow University of Notre Dame faculty member Irwin Press. Ganey brought his expertise in research methodology and measurement to the new company. He has made hundreds of presentations on the measurement of patient satisfaction and the effective utilization of this data by management to improve health care delivery.
Ganey is active in the South Bend, Ind., community and was recently named the 2011 W. Scott Miller Distinguished Business Leader of the Year by the South Bend Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Ganey was a 16-year faculty member in Notre Dame’s Department of Sociology, where he was the director of the Social Science Data Center.
Ganey resides in Henderson, Nev., with his wife, Carol (M.S. sociology ’78). The Ganeys are lifetime members of the ISU Alumni Association.
