Roy Reiman 2010
Roy J. Reiman
BS '57, Agricultural Journalism
Since graduating from Iowa State University, Roy Reiman has been successful in virtually every endeavor he has attempted. He built the country’s largest private subscription-based publishing company, Reiman Publications, and in the process became known for achieving one of the most remarkable business successes of any Iowa State graduate or any businessman in the country. Reiman Publications produced 14 magazines with a combined circulation of 16 million readers. In 2000, “Taste of Home,” the company’s most popular magazine, had 5.3 million subscribers, making it the sixth largest magazine in America.
Since retirement (he sold Remain Publications in 1998), Reiman has written a book (“I Could Write a Book,” now in its second printing), launched a new magazine, “Our Iowa,” and serves as chairman of Hexagon Investments. He and his wife, Bobbi, have turned their energy and capital to reviving the economy of their small community of Greendale, a historic town just south of Milwaukee.
The Reimans have also been active in supporting Iowa State. Their funds have established the popular Reiman Gardens south of campus, and the Reimans were the lead donors for the new ISU Alumni Center. Additionally, the Reimans have supported business and journalism programs and scholarships, as well as an entrepreneurial scholars and lectures program in the College of Business. The Roy and Bobbi Reiman Public Art Studio Gallery in the new Christian Petersen Art Museum in Morrill Hall is a testament to the Reimans’ support for the arts at Iowa State.
The Reimans live in Greendale, Wis. Roy is an ISU Foundation governor and a past member and president of the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors. Roy is the recipient of the ISU Alumni Association Alumni Medal (1983) and Impact Award (2003) and the Order of the Knoll Campanile Award (1998). The Reimans are members of the Order of the Knoll W.M. Beardshear Society and Campanile Society, and are lifetime members of the Iowa State University Alumni Association. Bobbi is an honorary alumna of Iowa State.
