David Miller 2003
David Miller, director of Facilities and Utilities, has played a leadership role in establishing Iowa State’s facilities as one of the most efficient in the country. From the day he arrived in 1983, he has made a difference. In the early 80s the university was experiencing multiple electrical outages that played havoc with university operations. One of the first projects Miller completed was a long-term plan to improve the system’s reliability. More recently, he has tackled the area of energy conservation. Through his efforts, the university has saved $ 1.5 million in utility and energy costs. Iowa State’s utility operation has become a model for the rest of the country’s universities. He is well known and highly valued in the community. He manages contracts with the City of Ames for fire protection, water, sewer, refuse, flood prediction, and power purchase and transmission. And his sons can testify that he is one of the best Eagle Scout dads around. Miller is an annual member of the ISU Alumni Association. |
