Jon Fleming 2010

Jon L. Fleming
BS Meteorology ’75
Ames, Iowa
Jon Fleming’s unwavering and limitless support of Iowa State University has distinguished him as a unique participant in the life, work, and aspiration of the university he calls home. His contributions to Iowa State and to the Ames community have transformed lives.
A gastroenterologist with Ames’ McFarland Clinic who earned his M.D. from the University of Iowa in 1979, Fleming was named Cy’s Favorite Alum by the ISU athletics department in 1995 for his multiple contributions of time and treasure to support Cyclone athletics. In 1993 he received Theta Chi’s National Citation of Honor for his efforts as an alumni advisor. When Iowa State’s chapter house was devastated by a fire in 1996, it was Fleming who paved the way for a new home to be rebuilt. Through thick and thin, he has offered constant support, encouragement, and mentoring to the fraternity’s members. He received Iowa State’s Outstanding Fraternity Alumnus award in 1991 and 1997, Theta Chi’s David E. DeVol Award in 2001 and 2002, and the Earl D. Rhodes “Theta Chi for Life Award” in 2010. Fleming has truly lived and breathed his commitment to Theta Chi for nearly three decades.
In addition to his service to such Iowa State organizations as the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors—of which he served as chair, the Partnership for Prominence national campaign committee, the Campaign Iowa State: With Pride and Purpose national campaign athletics department subcommittee, and the Parks Library Foundation committee, Fleming has also been extensively involved with the boards of the United Way of Story County, the Iowa Jewish Life Center, the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation, and Hope 4 Africa—for which he currently serves as vice chair.
Fleming is an ISU Alumni Association sustaining life member, a Foundation governor, a member of both the Order of the Knoll Beardshear and Campanile Societies, and a Cyclone Club member.
