Few alumni have served Iowa State University as broadly as Steve Mores. His commitment and involvement truly distinguish him as part of the elite group of Alumni Medal recipients who have provided long, loyal service to the university.
Mores is president and co-publisher of Tribune Newspapers, Inc., in Harlan, Iowa, and has been recognized for his leadership with awards from the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Small Business Association. He is also a former recipient of the Harlan Leadership Award. The 1979 Harlan Citizen of the Year is involved in his local community through everything from Knights of Columbus to the Harlan Industrial Foundation and DevelopSource, a county-wide economic development initiative.
At his alma mater, Mores established the Mores Family Scholarship in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. He has been involved with the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors and Circle honorary, the Alliance for ISU, the ISU Athletics Council, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Dean’s Advisory Board, the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication’s Advisory Council, the ISU Foundation Board of Directors and Board of Governors, the Order of the Knoll’s Campanile Society, the National Cyclone Club, and the District 3 Cyclone Club. In 2000, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He also served on the search committee that selected Gregory Geoffroy to be the university’s president in 2001.
Mores is a lifetime member of the ISU Alumni Association and ISU Memorial Union as well as a member of the Order of the Knoll and National Cyclone Club. He and his wife, Michelle, have two sons: Marc (’95 exercise and sport science) and Michael (’99 advertising).
