Juan Guardia
Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
Since graduating from Iowa State University in 2006, Juan Guardia has taken the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to situations in life and work through his role as director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Florida State University, serving students through educational programming, activities, and advising multicultural student groups. Guardia has received numerous honors for his commitment to educational support and service. In 2007, the Center for the Study of the College Fraternity and the Fraternity Executives Association honored Guardia with the Richard McKaig Outstanding Doctoral Research Award for his dissertation, Nuestra identidad y experiencias (Our identity and experiences): Ethnic identity development of Latino fraternity members at a Hispanic Service Institution. Additionally, he was honored as the American College Personnel Association’s Annuit Coeptis Emerging Professional. As a young professional who strives to make a difference in the lives of those around him, Guardia is seen by his peers and mentors as one who will leave his mark on the education world. “Juan is one of the most outstanding doctoral students we have had in the higher education program at Iowa State,” writes one of his nominators, “and he is a young professional of whom the College of Human Sciences can be proud.” Guardia is an annual member of the ISU Alumni Association.
