Paxton J. Williams
Young Alumnus Award
A yearlong celebration at Iowa State University honoring George Washington Carver’s legacy inspired Paxton Williams so much so that the then-undergraduate student created a one-man show on Carver’s life. “Listening to the Still Small Voice: The Story of George Washington Carver” is an educational and inspiring story of the scientist, educator, and humanitarian. Williams continues to perform the show throughout the United States. But Williams’ association with Carver’s legacy doesn’t end with “Listening to the Still Small Voice.” Today he is executive director of the George Washington Carver Birthplace District Association, which advances the historical, scientific, educational, and interpretative programs of the National Park Service at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Mo. The non-profit organization operates the concessions, including the bookstore, at the national park. Williams is a lifetime member of the ISU Alumni Association. |
