Suzanne K. Zaffarano

Ames, Iowa

Suzy Zaffarano is a vocal and diligent supporter of the arts, particularly music. She was the originator of the ISU music department’s Scholarship Musicale program, which has been in existence for nearly 20 years and has raised thousands of dollars for the music scholarship fund.

Zaffarano has also served as a member of the Music Advisory Committee and continues to provide the department with ideas and recommendations that support and enhance the department. She is always willing to share an honest assessment of the department’s events and is always the first person to send a note of congratulations following a successful recital, concert, or musical program. Zaffarano has also supported the department financially as a long-time member of the “Friends of Music” program.

Zaffarano is the wife of the late Daniel Zaffarano, who was vice president for research and dean of the Graduate College. She is a past president of the Ames Town & Gown Chamber Music Association, a supporter of the Ames Community Arts Council, and a member of ISU’s Order of the Knoll and Alumni Association. She served on the advisory board of the Ames Children’s Choirs and was a board member and president of the Ames International Orchestra Festival Association (AIOFA). She was selected to organize and become the first president of AIOFA’s Festival Guild. She and Dan were also supporters and members for many years of the Ames Choral Society. She is an annual member of the ISU Alumni Association.
