Christy Johnson-Lynch 2010

Christy Johnson-Lynch
Ames, Iowa
As an athlete, coach, mentor, ambassador, and advocate, Iowa State University head volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch has written a true success story.
In her five seasons in Ames, Johnson-Lynch has brought unprecedented levels of national attention, prestige, and on-court success to Iowa State volleyball. ISU, which finished the 2009 season ranked sixth nationally, is one of only eight programs in the country to reach the NCAA regional semifinals in three consecutive seasons (2007, 2008, 2009).
It has been, in every sense, the ultimate turnaround. In the five seasons before Johnson-Lynch arrived on campus, the Iowa State volleyball team was 36-111 overall and 7-93 in Big 12 contests. Under Johnson-Lynch, ISU is 105-58 and 60-40 and has posted a winning record every season. It’s a product the fans have noticed and appreciated; last year ISU’s average home attendance ranked ninth nationally.
As a volleyball player, Johnson-Lynch was a first-team All-American at Nebraska, where she helped the Huskers earn their first-ever national championship in 1995. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from UNL in 1996. Prior to Iowa State, Johnson-Lynch worked as an assistant coach at both Nebraska and Wisconsin.
In 2009, Johnson-Lynch was named the Asics/Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year, the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, and the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. She and her husband, Joe – a volunteer assistant coach on Johnson-Lynch’s staff, have a son named Jamison. She is a member of the Cyclone Club and a life member of the ISU Alumni Association.
