Corly Brooke

BS Child Development ’68
Ames, Iowa

“Excellence in learning and teaching” isn’t just part of Corly Brooke’s job title; it is the definition of her distinguished career.

As associate dean for the College of Human Sciences and in her long-time roles as director of ISU’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) and co-director of ISU’s learning communities program—consistently rated one of the nation’s best, Brooke has had a significant impact on ISU students and on the quality of educational opportunities offered at the university.

For decades, Brooke’s dedication to students has been unwavering. She is a popular teacher, an enthusiastic learner, and a valued friend to Iowa State University. Her work with learning communities has had a direct impact on student retention and graduation rates; her leadership of CELT has increased ISU’s number of scholarly publications on the topic of higher education. And every day in the classroom, her impact is inspiring and personal.

Brooke has received ISU’s Outstanding Teaching Award (1987), Ellis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (1995), Presidential Service Award (1997), and Student Affairs Award of Appreciation (2002).

She and her husband, Paul (’88 fisheries & wildlife biology; M.A. ’90 creative writing), have a daughter: Dawn. The Brookes are annual members of the ISU Alumni Association.
