Lyle and Nancy Campbell believed. They saw an architectural gem in Morrill Hall and knew that it could become the center for museums, laboratories, and academic excellence that it has become today. Thanks to the Campbells, a campus landmark held close to their hearts was saved from the wrecking ball.
As co-chairs of the Morrill Hall Campaign, the Campbells spearheaded the grassroots fundraising effort with a $1 million gift and contributed the final $200,000 to complete the fundraising. Quite literally, the campaign began and ended with the Campbells.
Co-chairing the Morrill Hall Campaign is not the only way in which the Campbells have been involved on the Iowa State campus. Lyle has also been extensively involved with the ISU Foundation Board of Governors and Board of Directors. He currently serves as chairman of the board of Legacy Bank in Scottsdale, Ariz., and he is a director of the Goldwater Institute, the Arizona State University Foundation, and the United Church of Christ’s Cornerstone Fund. Lyle is a 1999 recipient of the Spirit of Enterprise Award.
The Campbells are lifetime members of the Alumni Association and Order of the Knoll members. They have six children: Verna, Sheryl, Craig (’78 economics), Douglas, Scott, and Cathleen.
