Vaughn and Meg Speer 2008
Mary E. (Meg) Speer Meg and Vaughn Speer have been Iowa State University supporters for more than 60 years, making ISU outreach a priority. They have hosted students and alumni in their home and visited ISU graduates during personal and business travels in more than 30 foreign countries. Meg is a past member of the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors who received the College of Family and Consumer Sciences’ Professional Achievement Award in 1986, the American Dietetic Association Medallion Award in 1992, and the ADA Award for Excellence in the Practice of Community Dietetics in 1993. Vaughn served on many university and industry committees, including five National Research Council committees. He was awarded the American Feed Industry Animal Nutrition Award in 1989 and the ISU Alumni Association’s Faculty Citation in 1988. He is a member of Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Kappa Pi, and Sigma Xi. Vaughn and Meg have both published numerous articles in refereed research journals. Vaughn is ISU professor emeritus of animal science; Meg retired from dietetics. The Speers are Order of the Knoll members and lifetime and sustaining life members of the ISU Alumni Association, the Memorial Union, and Reiman Gardens, where they have served in numerous leadership roles. The Speers have four children: David Speer ’70, James Speer ’76, Elizabeth Speer Frandsen ’77, and Diana Speer Sarussi. They also have 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. |
