Scott DeBoer

Scott DeBoer

MS Physics ’91
PhD Electrical Engineering ’95
Boise, Idaho

In the nine years since earning his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from ISU, Scott DeBoer has had numerous technical and leadership accomplishments which have contributed to Micron Technology Inc.’s leadership position in the international semiconductor industry. Of particular note was DeBoer’s leadership of a global team of process integration engineers, which contributed significantly to the development and deployment of Micron’s 110 nanometer technology generation. This technology has been the mainstay of the company’s output for several years and has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for Micron. The 110 nanometer deployment effort supported Micron’s push into differentiated markets and contributed significantly to the company’s strength and durability as the only remaining U.S. memory manufacturer. Most recently, DeBoer orchestrated Micron’s R&D transition to leading-edge 300mm processing capability.

As the company’s youngest-ever director of process development, DeBoer leads Micron’s process R&D department of more than 1,000 of the country’s best and brightest technical contributors. His team develops innovative process technology every 12 to 24 months for new, faster, and smaller semiconductor generation, and then transfers the technology to high-volume manufacturing. DeBoer singly holds more than 125 patents. He steers the research and development for each of the new technology nodes, from the identification and acquisition of new equipment technology to the creation of new process steps, and ultimately the successful transfer of the new technology to Micron’s worldwide manufacturing sites.

DeBoer earned his bachelor’s degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., where he graduated with distinction and was the Nebraska State College Basketball Player of the Year in 1989. He was inducted into the Nebraska State College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.

DeBoer and his wife, Jennifer, have three children: Casey, Emily, and Charlie.
