Rohini Ramnath 2007Rohini Ramnath
Clinton, Iowa Rohini Ramnath’s steadfast commitment to recognizing and celebrating diversity on the ISU campus and in the Ames community has earned her distinction as one of the university’s – and the Ames community’s – top student leaders. As president of the “got ignorance?” campaign, she annually works to promote tolerance and understanding by rallying more than 20 multicultural and social action student groups. In 2006, she became Director of Diversity for the ISU Government of the Student Body (GSB) after previously serving GSB as Director of Student Affairs and as a senator representing the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In each of the past two years, she has coordinated volunteers from GSB for the Ames community’s Race Against Racism, as well as for the annual FACES (Families of Ames Celebrating Ethnicities) event. Ramnath is currently the president and student co-chair of the Committee on Lectures and a member of the ISU Foundation Student committee. She is currently a community advisor for the department of residence, and she has previously been active on campus with Catt Associates, Political Science Club, Carver Academy mentoring, President’s Leadership Class, Freshmen Council, Model United Nations, and the Freshmen Honors Program. She is a George Washington Carver Scholar, a 2007-2008 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar to Ghana, and the recipient of the Herta David Minority Achievement Award and the 2006 Ames-ISU YWCA Student of Achievement Award. Ramnath is a student member of the ISU Alumni Association. |
