Sarah Bauer 2003

Sarah Bauer

Sarah Bauer

Sarah Bauer, who has won top recognition as both an engineer and a musician, is the quintessential “Renaissance Woman.” As a chemical engineering major, she was named Tau Bet Pi Laureate, an honor bestowed on only three students in the nation. As a musician, she is one of the department’s top performers. She won the ISU Concerto Competition, and performed as soloist with the ISU Orchestra, where she is principal flutist and also plays the piccolo. She is also principal flutist with the Wind Ensemble and has learned to play trumpet with the Marching Band.

With both right and left-brain firmly attached to her heart, she has used her extraordinary talents and mind to serve others. For example, she maintains a web site that is a comprehensive guide on how to select and purchase a flute for beginning flutists. She was active in helping her department’s curriculum committee design and implement an electronic course evaluation system. She is a music minister at her church, where she not only performs, but also coordinates and arranges music selections and leads rehearsals. She has mentored a younger music student.

As a caring problem solver who can analyze both scientifically and creatively, Sarah will be sought after wherever she goes.
