Basil Mahayni 2005
Basil Riad Mahayni’s global consciousness and compassion for others have been central to his many contributions, which range from constructing a bathroom for a peasant community while studying abroad in Bolivia to sharing his views at Iowa State’s Multicultural Leadership Summit. A political science major, Mahayni has served as vice president and treasurer of the Arab Student Association, is the Multicultural Director of the Student Union Board, is a teaching assistant with the Multicultural Student Affairs’ Early Success Program, and served on the Time for Peace steering committee. Other activities in which he has participated include New Student Days, the ISU Men’s Soccer Club, and Business Council. Mahayni has also been active in his hometown Ames community as a mentor for Youth and Shelter Services and as a volunteer head coach for the Ames Soccer Club. Recently, he was honored as the Cityview/Drake University/Parrish Kruidenier Moss Dunn Boles Gribble & Cook Law Firm Student Activist of the Year for 2004-2005. |
