Rachel Iheanacho 2008
Rachel IheanachoBaker, La. Rachel Iheanacho has spent her university career reaching out to others, sharing a selfless spirit that has made the campus a better place for her fellow students. The leadership she has shown, say her nominators, has helped make Iowa State more racially and ethnically inclusive and has opened up new opportunities for current and future students. A George Washington Carver Academy Scholar who served as a project engineering intern for United States Gypsum, Co., in 2007, Iheanacho assisted with the founding of the Iowa State chapter of the National Organization for Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers in 2004 and is an active member of both the National Society of Black Engineers and the ISU Society of Women Engineers. In addition to her academic honors and activities, Iheanacho is currently serving as alumni relations co-chair for VEISHEA 2008 and as a peer mentor for the Leadership through Engineering Academic Diversity (LEAD) program. She has served as both the president and the Big XII delegate for ISU’s Black Student Alliance and played an important role in the recent re-opening of the Black Cultural Center in Ames. Elsewhere in the Ames community, Iheanacho is involved with the America Reads program at Fellows Elementary and with the Body of Christ Christian Church’s Gospel Soul Innovators. She has been a member of the ISU Student Alumni Association for four years. |
