ISU Alumni Association Special Interest Societies

Society -- an organized group for a particular purpose or common interest.

Were you part of an organization as a student? Are you interested in reconnecting with those individuals who shared some of your same interests? Alumni who participated in specific activities while attending ISU have the opportunity to form Special Interest Societies in CySpace (the Alumni Association’s online community).

You’ll have the ability to:

•    Post discussion topics
•    Upload photos related to your Society
•    View the Society member list and member profiles
•    Read announcements posted by fellow Society members…and then post your own!

Basically, you can communicate with Iowa Staters like never before! It's one more way to stay connected to ISU and to other alumni who share the same interests and experiences.

How to Get Started
In order to create or join a group, you’ll need to log into CySpace, which is the Alumni Association’s online community (online directory, select issues of VISIONS magazine, Class Notes, etc.). Once in CySpace, you’ll have access to “Groups,” which is where you can join or create Special Interest Societies or groups.

If you’ve previously logged into CySpace and have a profile set up, click the Login link at the top of the CySpace homepage (http://cyspace.isualum.org). If you’ve never logged into CySpace before, click on the First Time Login link and follow the instructions.

Once you’re logged into CySpace, you’re ready to join or create interest groups!

How to Join a Society/Group
Before creating a society, you can search for already-formed groups that may be of interest to you. To search for a group, click “My Groups” at the top of the screen. Click the Search tab and enter a keyword that best describes the group you’re looking for (i.e. “VEISHEA” or “Carillon” or “Oak-Elm”). Once you find the group you would like to join, click “Join Group” and then hit “Save.” Please allow 1-2 business days for your request to be processed.

If no group is found to meet your interest, then you can create your own!

How to Create a Society/Group
To create a group, click the Create a Group button. Enter in the group information, including name, description, photo, and the group’s privacy setting. As a group creator, you have the ability to send out   e-mails to other group members and make adjustments to the group. We encourage each Society to have a leadership group of at least 2-3 people.

Each newly-formed Society will be recognized during an Iowa State Alumni Association Board of Directors Meeting (Society leaders do not need to be present for this recognition).
