Constitution

Article I – Name

Section 1.  The name of this organization shall be the Iowa State University Society of VEISHEA Alumni and Friends.

Article II – Purposes

Section 1. The purposes for which this Society is formed are:

A. Mission Statement: "To use our affiliation with and respect for VEISHEA to help current students further showcase the excellence of Iowa State University"
B. Goals:

1. To serve as a venue to connect alumni, students, and the community.
2. To provide consultation, advice, and support to the current VEISHEA committee.
3. To keep the members of the Society connected with VEISHEA, Iowa State and each other.
4. To help VEISHEA maintain sustainability.

Article III – Membership and Dues

Section 1. Any person(s) who are alumni, students, or friends of Iowa State University and the Society are eligible for membership in the Society.

Section 2. The Society must have a minimum of 25 Alumni Association dues paying members.

Section 3. Dues other than ISU Alumni Association dues cannot be charged to Society members.

Section 4. Each member of the Society shall be entitled to one vote in the affairs of the Society, as provided in this constitution and its subsequent bylaws.

Article IV - Government

Section 1. The government of the Society will be vested in a Board of Directors consisting of President/Chairperson and a minimum of three other officers all of whom must hold membership in the Iowa State University Alumni Association and an ISU Alumni Association Representative (ex-officio). Additional Officers may be determined as needed and approved by the Board of Directors.

Section 2. The officers of the Society will be elected for one 1-year term or serve until their successors have been elected and qualified.

Article V – Duties of the Officers

Section 1. President: The President shall preside at all meetings of the Society, serve as an ex officio member of all committees, appoint an officer or Society member to serve on the VEISHEA Advisory Council, be the liaison with the Alumni Association, and appoint committees as needed.

Section 2. Vice President and Event Chair: The Vice President shall preside at all meetings where the President is not able to be in attendance. The Vice President shall further have the responsibility of organizing all regular and special events for the Society.

Section 3. Secretary: The Secretary shall maintain accurate and detailed minutes of the proceedings of all scheduled and special meetings and serve in the absence of the President and/or Vice President. In addition, the secretary shall serve as treasurer, maintaining financial records of all income and expenses and distribute reports in a timely manner to the President.

Section 4. Community Relations Chair: The Community Relations Chair shall be responsible for the inception, planning and implementation of programs dedicated to developing a solid and positive relationship with all external communities, including but not limited to: the community of Ames, Iowa and surrounding communities.

Section 5. Special Projects and Development Chair: The Special Projects and Development Chair shall be responsible for the inception, planning and implementation of programs outside the purview of the Community Relations Chair, including Society Membership relations and other tasks as decided by the Officers.

Article VI – Meetings

Section 1. At least one meeting of the Society must be held each year. Failure to comply with this provision shall make the Society charter subject to revocation by the Iowa State University Alumni Association.

Section 2. At least two meetings must be held each year with the Board of Directors.

Article VII – Adoption

Section 1. The constitution shall be officially adopted upon its approval by a majority vote of the members of the Society in attendance at any regular or special meeting of the Society. It shall take effect upon the granting of authorization of its function as one of the official alumni Special Interest Societies by the Iowa State University Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Article VIII – Amendments

Section 1.   This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of all members present at any meeting duly called of the members of the Society. No amendments shall take effect until duly approved by the Iowa State University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
