Alumni Network Luncheons

Cy, Herky, and T.C. invite you to Alumni Network Luncheons

The Alumni Associations of Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa are joining forces to offer our alumni and friends an opportunity to leave the intrastate rivalry at the door and network during informative and educational luncheons at Django, located in the Hotel Fort Des Moines downtown.

The topics for the spring series are listed below. Each event is open to the public and features a speaker, a chance to network, and a lunch.

All lunches will be held at Django, 210 10th St., from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Register now! Cost is $12/lunch for ISUAA members and $14/lunch for nonmembers.

Personal Financial Health in the New Year
It’s the New Year and we have the opportunity to help you focus on your personal “financial” health for 2010.  If the current economy leaves you wondering what the next best financial move is, don’t feel alone. Certified Financial Planners and Iowa State graduates Julie Fuller and Michelle Mahoney address these issues daily as their client families are contemplating the best use of current cash (debt reduction, investing, or both?), the likelihood of rising interest rates, and their desire to support charities they care deeply about. Join us as Julie and Michelle provide an overview of sound financial tips to get your personal financial health in order…regardless of what the market does.

Power of Choice
The power of choice is a strong force in people's lives; one that is often unused. Through humor, personal examples, inspiration and audience involvement, the power of choice is explored and the effects on attitudes and behavior are discussed. Penelope O’Connor is an instructor of speech communication at the University of Northern Iowa and has been on the faculty for 22 years. She teaches in the areas of basic speech, listening, interpersonal communication and public speaking, and also manages the basic speech course. She is a member of the UNI speakers bureau and speaks about listening and communications skills as well as motivational topics to many groups and organizations.

A Multigenerational Workplace
For the first time in recent history, the workplace now employs four generations of employees. Whether you’re a Baby Boomer or a Millennial, it’s important to know the difference in communication and work styles, values and beliefs, and motivations for success. There are real differences that can help, or hinder, a work environment. Bonnie Mikelson, a University of Iowa graduate of the School of Social Work, will share with us the keys to motivating and communicating with the different generations to help foster a better work environment for all ages. An experienced consultant, trainer, and therapist, she is currently in practice with Mercy Psychiatric Services of Central Iowa in Des Moines.
