2002 Kischer Intramural Reunion
Kischer Intramural Team Reunion Team reunites for special anniversary Members of a record-breaking intramural basketball team returned to campus in August 2002 for a belated reunion commemorating the 40th anniversary of their All University Championship. (The reunion was originally scheduled for September 2001 but was postponed one year because of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.) Of the nine original players on the intramural, four returned to Iowa State Aug. 29-31 for the reunion. The four – Allan Allenspach; Dick Johnsen and his wife, Esther; Ward Kischer; and Terry Hoage and his wife, Mary – walked through central campus, attended a Cyclone football game, ate lunch in the Memorial Union, and toured the science facilities where they spent long hours as graduate students in the late 1950s and early 1960s. They visited Entomology Department facilities, met with current chair of entomology Joel Coats, and visited the Insect Zoo. They spent part of one morning browsing Parks Library and touring the Jacobson Athletics Building’s historical display, which includes a picture and description of the 1959 “Dirty Thirty” football team among other sports of their era. |
