What We Love About Iowa State
What We Love About Iowa StateA six-foot-by-eight-foot "What We Love About Iowa State" mural has been commissioned by Sticks, Inc., for the ISU sesquicentennial. Founded by Ames native and former Iowa State professor Sarah Grant, Sticks is a nationally acclaimed, Iowa-based art furniture, sculpture, and design company known for its fanciful imagery and vibrant color schemes. The mural contains scenes from Iowa State, ISU history and memories, and phrases from students, alumni, faculty, and staff about why they love Iowa State. Funding for the work of art came from Sticks, University Museums, and the President's Office. Iowa State has a long tradition of commissioning public art murals, beginning with Grant Wood and Christian Petersen. "What We Love About Iowa State" is the 26th campus mural. Furniture, accessories, and small plaques containing elements of the mural are available though the ISU Alumni Association's online store. Posters, T-shirts, and home accessories are also available. A portion of each sale comes back to the university to help fund sesquicentennial activities. The original mural is on display during the sesquicentennial and will become a new acquisition to the University Museums' Public Art on Campus Collection. |
