Society -- an organized group for a particular purpose or common interest.
Were you part of an organization as a student? Are you interested in reconnecting with those individuals who shared some of your same interests? Alumni who participated in specific activities while attending ISU have the opportunity to engage through Special Interest Societies. It's one more way to stay connected to ISU and to other alumni who share the same interests and experiences.
Check out the active Special Interest Societies below. Society leader contact information is also listed. Feel free to contact a society leader if you have questions.
The following special interest societies are inactive. For more information or to re-start the society, please contact Chelsea Trowbridge (email@example.com or 515-294-2584).
How to Join a Special Interest Society
Before creating a society, you can search for already-formed groups that may be of interest to you. If you are an Alumni Association member, you can select Special Interest Societies in the Edit Your Profile page of the online directory. If no group is found to meet your interest, then you can create your own!
How to Create a Special Interest Society
If connecting with other alumni who share the same experiences and interest sounds like something you are interested in pursuing, contact us to get started. To create a new Special Interest Society, contact Chelsea Trowbridge (firstname.lastname@example.org).
We encourage each Society to have a leadership group of at least 2-3 people. As you’re considering the new Special Interest Society, define the following: the purpose of the society; how you will engage constituents; the communication methods with constituents; and how will the group define success. Each newly-formed Society will be recognized during an Iowa State Alumni Association Board of Directors Meeting (Society leaders do not need to be present for this recognition).
The ISU Alumni Association reserves the right to censor any Societies and/or language on Society pages that it deems inappropriate or contradictory to the group’s purpose.
