On behalf of the Greek Alumni Alliance, we want to welcome you to the first edition of our e-newsletter! As some of you already know, the Greek Alumni Alliance has been an important part of the Iowa State Greek Community since 2004. After ten successful years of helping the community grow we are very excited about the future of our organization.

Your GAA Executive Committee:
Over the last 18 months, the Greek Alumni Alliance (GAA) has been working to finalize an agreement with the Iowa State University Alumni Association (ISUAA) and we are thrilled to announce that the relationship is in place, which means some very exciting things for our Greek Alumni community. With this agreement we are able to bring additional outreach to our current alumni base, including tools like this newsletter, which will be released quarterly; social media and web presence; opportunities to highlight our Greek Alumni through the ISUAA awards recognition; access to the Alumni Center for events and meetings; and much more. Our goal is to reach more Greek Alumni then ever before through new means of communication and engagement. Our Executive Committee along with our members have been working diligently to get this all completed. We feel moving in this direction will help us reach more alumni while still be able to advocate on behalf of the Greek Community.
The Greek Community has grown to be 14.6% of the student body at Iowa State! The 2014 Annual Report released by the Office of Greek Affairs notes 61 chapters are active in the community, with an increase from last fall in the number of chapters within each governing council (CPC, IFC, MGC, and NPHC).
The Greek Alumni Alliance will be recognizing the Alumnus of the Year award recipients at the 2015 Pre-Vesper event on March 29. Undergraduate chapter presidents should complete the application for any CPC/IFC/MGC/NPHC alumnus who served in a volunteer capacity in the 2014 calendar year.

In 2014, the Greek Alumni Alliance established a Greek Alumni Involvement grant program to award up to three chapters (one CPC, one IFC, one MGC or NPHC) a $250 grant to assist with alumni relations efforts. Undergraduate chapter presidents should complete the application to be considered for funding to enhance their alumni programming initiatives.

Over the past 18 months, the Greek Alumni Alliance (GAA) has been working with the City of Ames on unified efforts to advocate for a modification to the City of Ames on-site parking requirements as it pertained to fraternity and sorority chapter facilities. While it has taken a substantial amount of time to reach this point and while there have been many frustrations along the way; we believe an appropriate City Code amendment was requested, vetted through an extensive public and neighborhood comment process, and ultimately approved on a third reading at the Ames City Council meeting held on December 16, 2014 by a vote of 5 to 1.
