“Iowa State University means everything to me,” said William Hoefle. “Pretty much since 1960, Iowa State has been my university or my employer, and I am proud to be an alumnus.” His time as a student at Iowa State is filled with too many favorite memories to choose from, as they range from fraternity experiences and moments in Cyclone athletics to various campus activities and being chosen for Cardinal Key, Iowa State’s highest academic honor society.
Hoefle’s relationship with Iowa State is marked by dedication and loyalty. He has been a donor for almost as long as he has been an alumnus. Throughout the years, support from Hoefle and his wife, Judith, has impacted many areas across campus, including athletics, the alumni association and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
During his tenure as a professor of veterinary clinical sciences at Iowa State, Hoefle has focused on total hip prosthesis, bone grafts and osteosarcoma treatment in dogs. His expertise is widely recognized, as he is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, and is on the IVMA Sports and Field Day Committee.
Hoefle further serves Iowa State University through volunteering his time on the Iowa State University Alumni Association board of directors and as an Iowa State University Foundation Governor.
Hoefle has been recognized previously for his long-standing dedication to the university. He and Judith were named Cy’s Favorite Alums in 2007 and received the Iowa State University Alumni Association’s National Service Award in 2009. Hoefle also received the association’s alumni medal in 2012.
“It is an honor to be recognized among a group of individuals who have done so much for Iowa State,” said Hoefle. “Anything I have accomplished at Iowa State as a faculty or as an alum has been a team effort with Judy.”
Hoefle and his wife live in Ames and have two children, William Jr. and Paige. The Hoefles are members of the Order of the Knoll William M. Beardshear Society and Campanile Society, and of the Iowa State University Alumni Association.
The Iowa State University Alumni Association is an independent 501(c)3, self-governing organization charged with the mission of engaging the talents and resources of alumni, students, and friends in the life, work, and aspiration of Iowa State University.
