Kaitlyn Wiener 2016

Food Science ’09
Minneapolis, Minn.

Kaitlyn Wiener is president of the ISU Alumni Association Club of the Twin Cities, an active organization that promotes Iowa State connections in one of the nation’s cities most densely populated with Iowa State alumni and friends.

Before taking over as club president in 2014, Wiener played roles as the club’s gamewatch coordinator and as its coordinator of volunteer and philanthropic events. Nominators say her enthusiasm, organizational skills, and dedication to her alma mater have made Wiener uniquely able to bring a large, diverse group of Twin Cities alumni and friends together in meaningful ways and helped create a positive presence for the university in the area.

Wiener’s efforts with the ISUAA Club of the Twin Cities have been especially effective in reaching young alumni. As gamewatch coordinator, she took the initiative to find a new location in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood, which is popular with young alumni. She also organized the club’s first-ever Cy’s Days of Service event, engaging alumni of all ages with the opportunity to volunteer at a local chapter of Feed My Starving Children. The inaugural service event engaged a variety of new people in the club, consistent with Wiener’s aspirations for the club to be more diverse and inclusive.

Wiener, who works as a food product developer for General Mills, earned her master’s degree in food science from Kansas State University in 2014 and has remained engaged with the College of Human Sciences and food science department at ISU. She is also an alumna of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority who serves as president of the University of Minnesota Kappa Alpha Theta Facility Corporation Board and of the Kappa Alpha Theta Minneapolis Alumnae Chapter.

She is an ISU Alumni Association annual member.
