Debra Solberg Gibson (L) is a senior lecturer and the Meredith Professional in Residence for ISU’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication whose professional relationship with ISU dates back to 1982, when she was an Alumni Association information specialist and the creator and first editor of VISIONS magazine. Since 2004, Gibson has been a member of the Greenlee faculty – and journalism students have been more personally and professionally successful because of it. Gibson coordinates the School’s Meredith Apprentice Program and P.E.E.R. program for high-performing Greenlee students; teaches undergraduate courses; serves as an academic adviser; and is a member of the School’s curriculum committee and the ISU Performing Arts Council. “I can’t think of anyone in my Iowa State experience who’s been a bigger cheerleader for her current and former students than she,” says one of her nominators. Adds another: “I’m still finding out just how much she’s inspired me. But when I try to sum it up, it’s this: I get to go to a job I love tomorrow because of Deb Gibson.”
