William Edwards (L) and Robert Jolly (A) are Emeritus Professors in the Iowa State University Department of Economics whose contributions to the fields of farm and agribusiness management span decades, including groundbreaking ISU Extension work that provided assistance during the 1980s Farm Crisis. Edwards and Jolly have each received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, as well as the ISU College of Agriculture Award for Excellence in International Agriculture, among other honors. Edwards spent 10 years as faculty adviser to ISU’s award-winning Ag Business Club and co-authored the popular textbook Farm Management. Jolly has focused his teaching and research on international programs, providing training and education for the agricultural sectors of transition economies in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, China, and India. For more than 30 years, Edwards and Jolly together provided leadership for the Agricultural Credit School, an annual educational event sponsored by Iowa State University and the Iowa Bankers Association.

Both men have made an indelible imprint on the lives of their former students.

“As a student, I could see the immense satisfaction these two professors derived from nurturing students—propelling their students to achieve their potential,” their nominator said. “I am indebted to their guidance, counsel, leadership, patience, and encouragement. Through their friendship and mentorship, I learned to love to help others by giving the same hand-up that Professors Jolly and Edwards gave to me.”
