Samuel Schulte 2017

Sam Schulte has consistently taken advantage of opportunities to advance and apply his education. As a result, he was named a 2016 recipient of the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship for the nation’s most elite science, technology, engineering, and math students.

Sam, a National AP and National Merit Scholar who is a member of Cardinal Key, Phi Beta Kappa, University Honors, and Sigma Xi, has been named to the 2016 Cardinal Court and received the Linder Family Undergraduate Research Fellowship. He has been published in three peer-reviewed journals and received the Best Poster Award at the Stupka Undergraduate Research Symposium, in addition to experiences presenting research before the Biophysical Society Annual Meeting, One Health Conference, Kemin WorldWide Scientific Meeting, American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Annual Meeting, and World Food Prize Global Youth Institute, among others.

A former senator with the ISU Student Government, Sam is currently active as an ex-officio member of the Ames City Council. He is a member of the ISU Wind Ensemble and has been a research assistant in two campus laboratories. He has traveled the world as both a Wallace-Carver Fellow and Borlaug-Ruan Intern for the World Food Prize, and he recently spent the summer of 2016 as an Amgen Scholar at the California Institute of Technology.

He is a member of the Student Alumni Association.
