What stereotypes do you have, or have you heard, about what it means to be an alumnus? Well, throw those out the window. Being an alum is about pride. It's about staying connected. It's about school spirit.

Get involved with a local Alumni Association club
Why watch the Cyclone game by yourself? Wouldn't it be nice to have happy hour with someone who lived in your dorm? There's no better way to network and make friends in your new community than by getting involved with one of our 30 local clubs, which do everything from gamewatches to volunteer projects to social outings. Everyone who is a member of the ISU Alumni Association is automatically a member of his or her local club, but there's no membership obligation to attend club events. So now you have absolutely no excuse not to check one out soon. Use the map on our Web site to find a club in your area.

Meet the ISU Young Alumni Council
This isn't your average board: The new ISU Young Alumni Council has a few ideas about how to make the ISU Alumni Association and its programs offer value to young alumni, and they'd love to have your support. Visit the YAC Web site to find out more about the Council and what they're trying to do...you might even want to apply to get involved in the future.

Join the ISU Alumni Association
Want a simple way to give back to Iowa State that offers benefits in return? Your ISUAA membership dollars support countless activities and opportunities for students and alumni. And as a member, you get discounts, online benefits, and your own personal subscription to VISIONS magazine. And while $55 a year is a great value, it's even better for new grads: During your first three years out of college, an annual membership is only $30.

It's like Facebook...only more grown up
CySpace is THE place to keep in touch with your college friends, as it includes a complete directory of ISU alumni. Create your profile, add friends, and even search for networking opportunities online. (Make no mistake: Your ISU connections CAN help land you a job.) Anyone can update his or her own profile, and complete access to search the directory and to post business ads and class notes on CySpace is available to all members of the ISUAA. Plus, check it out: If you post a class note online now it just might end up in the next issue of VISIONS magazine.

Give Back
You love Iowa State, and you want to support your alma mater, right? But maybe you think it's not worth the time if you can't write a huge check or have a building named after you. Not true! You don't have to have megabucks to be a donor to Iowa State. And now alumni aged 40 and under can be a part of the prestigious Order of the Knoll through its new Campanile Society.
