‘Rock On’ Symposium Celebrates 10 Years in 2022

Join us online with Zoom

“Ten Years and Still Rocking On,” will be the theme of the ISU Retirees Association’s 10th annual symposium on Wednesday, Nov. 9. To celebrate this milestone, speakers will feature a retro look at three relevant topics from past years that have been updated for 2022.

This will be the first symposium held both at the ISU Alumni Building in Ames and online for attendees who want to join remotely. The hybrid format should meet the needs of those who would like to attend in person and those who live a distance from campus. We hope if you live close to Ames that you will join us in-person. For those attending in person, masks are optional and at the discretion of each participant.

We are excited to be back in the building with the presenters and sponsors. We look forward to welcoming you. Don’t forget to invite your family and friends to join you.

Check in will start at 8 a.m. CT with the symposium programming beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT and concluding at noon CT. The half-day event will include three keynote speakers, information from sponsors and vendors, drawings for prizes, and an opportunity to ask your own questions of the speakers. For those joining remotely, chat rooms will be available to visit with sponsors, and questions can be submitted online to speakers.

Registration will open online Monday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. CT. at the ISU Retirees event page. Participants will indicate whether they will attend online or in-person. Those who register by Monday, Oct. 24 AND plan to participate online, will receive a symposium packet in the mail prior to the event. Those attending in person will pick up their symposium packet the day of the event.

This year’s topics include information on current frauds and scams, helpful information to prevent falls, and how we can give back to our community. Presentations are as follows:

  • Preventing Falls by Gregory Welk, Barbara E. Forker, professor of kinesiology and director of the ISU Translational Research Network (U-TuRN), Iowa State University
  • Current Frauds and Scam by Amy Mesenbrink, vice-president and cashier, First National Bank, Ames
  • Giving That Makes a Difference by Nancy Franz, professor emeritus in the School of Education and past director of professional development for ISU Extension and Outreach

The program is free to participants through sponsorships. We appreciate your support of this event.
