Dennis A. Muilenburg joined The Boeing Company in June 1985 and has held a progression of program management and engineering positions on a broad range of large-scale programs. Now as the executive vice president of Boeing and the president and chief executive officer of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, he oversees a $32 billion, 62,000-person business unit that provides integrated solutions to meet the enduring needs of defense, government, space, intelligence and security customers in the United States and around the world.

Prior to his current position, Muilenburg was president of Boeing’s Global Services & Support, an $8 billion business providing after-delivery support for military platforms and systems, and a broad array of defense and government services. He has also served as vice president and general manager of the Boeing Combat Systems division and program manager for the U.S. Army’s principal modernization program.  

Before that assignment, Muilenburg was vice president of Programs & Engineering, Boeing Air Traffic Management, where he was responsible for the overall development of Boeing’s program to modernize the air traffic management system and support complementary global communication, navigation and surveillance services. He previously served as the director of Weapon Systems for the Boeing Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program and is a co-holder of the patent on the Boeing JSF design concept.

Muilenburg earned a master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the University of Washington. He serves on the board of directors for Caterpillar Inc.; on the board of trustees for the National World War II Museum, Washington University in St. Louis, and the St. Louis Science Center; and on the council of trustees for the Association of the United States Army. He also is a member of the steering committee of the Defense Industry Initiative.

He is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the Boeing executive focal for Iowa State University.

Muilenburg and his wife, Rebecca, live in Edwardsville, Ill. They are members of the Order of the Knoll’s Campanile Society and President’s Circle, and are life members of the ISU Alumni Association.
